goodness, what i liar i have proven to be. instead of sharing amazing things that relate to drawing, ive just been drawing. this was something that i had wanted to do after my last show, thinking that not only could it fill out the work a bit, but that some interesting discussions could possibly come out of it.

as i am waiting for the work to arrive here in the city i am reading about this incredible show that i am inviting everyone to come and see with me, 'Mummies of the World'. It is the largest traveling exhibition of mummies ever assembled. ever. assembled. my most sought after muse. bodies encased in layers of stories reflecting and cultivating unparalleled creative feats. histories torn from these newly assigned authors to be rewoven into the emperors new clothes.
a quote from the show regarding ornamental body modification, "It's clearly got some kind of meaning and it had a purpose — I'm willing to bet," said Gill-Frerking.

if LA is too far i will recommend the jack burman show at clint roenisch closing on the 10th.

so, i just wanted to begin this post by thanking everyone who came out to the show and to say that i really enjoyed meeting some of the people whose blogs i follow for the first time. it was a great night! and if you didnt get a chance to make it out then the show is up until nov 2nd at LE gallery.

i also wanted to take this opportunity to position the works in their intended narrative context. each triptych consists of a specimen from a natural history museum subjected to a different type of human preservation, a custom kafka 'in the penal colony' inspired torture machine and then a device which speaks to that place in between death and display. example, an ossuary for a six legged calf pointing to how these special and unique creatures begin and end at the end of the rainbow. too obvious? maybe.
im also going to be adding links to...mummies. thats right, all of the inspirational mummies that relate to each of the pieces just because i find them fascinating. thank you heather pringle and thank you kafka. and the 'our lady of hudson bay' mummy displayed at the museum of civilization.
i apologise for the inconsistency in photos, im working through the documentation process. i hope to have my website updated this weekend.

new work at LE

I am very pleased to be a part of Barometric Reading Series 1, the inaugural exhibition of LE Gallery's curatorial branch Young Canada, as well as my first group show as a LE artist. I will be showing three new drawings from the series The Whaleship Was My Harvard and My Yale, alongside works from Katie Pretti, Kristi Malakoff, Sarah Clifford-Rashotte and Melanie Authier.

The opening is this Friday, July 10 from 7-10pm, while the show runs July 8th to August 2nd.

i've been in brooklyn for three weeks and the place really hasn't changed my work except for the fact that i now draw terrifying skeletons...or rather one otherwise known as the six legged calf.

i just found out that ill be spending the first three months of the new year in venice doing an internship at the peggy guggenheim museum. if you could not tell by the expression on my face in the photo, of what i think i will look like in venice, im really very excited. i hope that this means the beginning of colour in my work - but no promises.

i spent this weekend in new york visiting my friend nick who was showing as part of 'on the road of knives' with zak smith and shawn cheng. these are basically the only two pictures that i took as we were busy watching ufc clips on youtube. this one was added if only to make him look taller.
im Really excited about his new work and the potential to spend some time in the city working as well. nick was an excellent host, save for his misleading retelling of my border crossing nightmare.

There was a boy who convinced me to start a blog. He just so happens to be one of my favourite artists in Toronto, and for the record a non-smoker.

Nicholas Di Genova's work has been described as:
"Full-bodied, lots of juicy peach fruit/marmalade. This is out of left-field, but the color and texture here reminded me of some of the Alban whites -- it's quite rich, with a bit of an oily feel, and a deep golden, yellow color. Unusual for an Italian white."
